A trainee from Stadtwerke Gießen won second prize in a writing competition organised by those responsible for the Vocatium training fair.
Taking another look at one's own career choice and helping pupils in their final year to make a decision - this is the aim of texts that trainees were able to submit to a competition organised by the Vocatium training fair. Kim-Lea Schroeter accepted this challenge. She is training to become a pool attendant at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) and wrote on an A4 sheet of paper "why she loves her apprenticeship". This was the topic she was given. Kim-Lea Schroeter came second out of around 800 participants and won 1,000 euros in prize money.
The dream job portrayed authentically and lovingly
At no point in her text does Kim-Lea Schroeter leave any doubt that being a pool attendant is her dream job. "The way in which Ms Schoeter describes her training in our company makes me a little proud," explains Andreas Hergaß, Commercial Director of SWG, and adds: "I am particularly pleased that she has obviously found exactly the right thing for herself with us."
Kim-Lea Schroeter does indeed describe the typical tasks of a pool attendant in her text. In an authentic and sometimes affectionate way, she addresses literally everything she is confronted with in the swimming pool - from daily cleaning to poolside supervision and leading various courses to working on the numerous technical systems in a swimming pool. "I like the variety in my job and simply feel really at home at SWG. That's exactly what I wanted to express in my text," summarises the 19-year-old. "The fact that I ended up with 1,000 euros naturally makes me over the moon."
Inspiring young people
Vocatium is an event organised by the IfT Institute for Talent Development and takes place in numerous German cities. "For us as a large training company in the region, it is a matter of course to take part in such a trade fair. Not only because we need young talent, but above all because we are very aware of our social responsibility. Award winner Kim-Lea Schroeter and the numerous other trainees representing SWG at the trade fair stand are important ambassadors for the company. I am sure that their commitment will inspire many young people for the meaningful work at SWG," summarises Andreas Hergaß.
