This week saw the end of the holiday games at Stadtwerke Giessen's waterworks in Queckborn. A good 400 children from a total of twelve municipalities in the Stadtwerke Giessen supply area took part during the month of July. Under the motto "Waterworks in Action", the focus was not just on facts and figures about water quality or the complicated technology behind the tap, as in the guided tours for adults. Instead, the focus was on conveying practical everyday knowledge in a child-friendly way: How much water do we use for cleaning or showering and how many litres do we actually drink per day? There were answers to such questions - albeit silent ones. This was quite intentional, because instead of boring display boards, a pantomime game provided entertaining information. Outside the waterworks, a friendly competition continued in three groups with water-related games. Each child received a small gift and could also take part in a competition organised by the municipal utilities to win non-cash prizes such as an iPod or a digital camera.
