Since 2004, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has been commemorating the Tour of Hope throughout the year. One of the company's buses, decorated accordingly, travels on various routes and draws the attention of people in the region to the good cause. In future, a new vehicle will take on this task. Together with the organisers of the charity tour, SWG presented the bus in the tour design at a press event.
The 34th edition of the Tour of Hope starts in Giessen on 2 August. Once again this year, several hundred cyclists will be pedalling for the fight against cancer - including numerous celebrities from the worlds of sport, politics and culture. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will also be taking part as a partner. The company has been involved in the charity ride since 1995 and helps with the organisation and fundraising. A commitment that is not limited to the time of the tour, but continues throughout the year. Among other things, SWG sells raffle tickets in the customer centre and at events. All proceeds go to the Tour of Hope. In addition, SWG has been reminding people from Giessen and the surrounding area to get involved in the fight against cancer with one of its decorated buses since 2004. From now on, one of the new SWG buses, which will be travelling on various routes in the Tour design, will take on this task.
Presence in people's minds
At the presentation of the bus, Gerhard Becker, head of organisation for the fundraising tour, emphasised: "We are delighted that Stadtwerke, as a long-standing partner, is supporting us with so much energy. An important element of this is to keep our idea constantly present in the minds of people here in the region." Sporting Director Karsten Koch added: "With the Tour of Hope bus, we have a very special advertising space at our disposal that generates particular attention - and that matches our new colourful appearance."
Since 2016, the tour participants have been wearing a modern green jersey. The SWG bus with the stickers was also given the same livery. Company spokeswoman Ina Weller revealed at the press event: "We really wanted to send the vehicle out on the route before the start of this year's tour. We are all the more pleased to be able to promote the tour for a few more days before it starts. Now we are keeping our fingers crossed for the organisers and everyone involved that they will set a new donation record." On behalf of SWG, she wished all the athletes a good tour.
The patron of the event, Petra Behle, agreed: "Together, we want to complete another successful tour and encourage as many people as possible to make a contribution for the sick children. Every pedal stroke is important and every donation counts - regardless of the time of year. That's why I'm delighted that SWG is using its bus to draw attention to our tour and the good cause. "
