Clean drinking water is one of the world's most precious commodities. The United Nations reminds us of this every year on 22 March, World Water Day. To mark this special date, Stadtwerke Giessen is once again offering a special guided tour of the Queckborn waterworks - in 2015, however, on Saturday, 21 March.
Every drop of drinking water has a long journey before it reaches the households of Giessen. One of the most important intermediate stations: the waterworks of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) in Queckborn. There, on the afternoon of 21 March, interested visitors can find out more about the number one foodstuff.
During a guided tour of the plant in Queckborn and the central zone tank in Annerod, they will receive information on the technology and history of the water supply, among other things. "At home, all we have to do is turn on the tap and clean water of the highest quality flows - as a matter of course. We want to show visitors to Queckborn exactly where it comes from, where the source is located and how the supply technology has changed over the course of time," explains Michael Rösner, Head of Sales for Private and Commercial Customers at SWG.
Bus service from Giessen to Queckborn
SWG has set up a free special bus service for participants in the guided tour on 21 March. Departure: 14:00 at the bus stop Behördenzentrum, directly opposite the Kinopolis on the Ostanlage in Giessen. After the end of the event, the special bus will take participants back there. Arrival: around 17:30.
Stadtwerke Gießen will be accepting registrations until 13 March - by calling the service number 0800 2302100. Anyone interested should hurry. The number of places is limited.
Group tours of the waterworks
Stadtwerke Gießen offers guided tours of the Queckborn waterworks for school classes, clubs or other larger groups all year round. Visits must be arranged in advance. More information and a corresponding form can be found on the SWG website www.stadtwerke-giessen.de under the heading "Water".
