"If you want to practise a health-promoting sport in the great outdoors, rowing is the perfect choice," assures Michael Berkowski, Chairman of the Hellas Gießen Water Sports Club (WSV). Obviously, more and more people of all ages are looking for exactly that, as the club's steadily increasing membership figures show. 266 children, young people and adults regularly train for competitions on the Lahn between Klinkelscher Mühle and Badenburg or recover from the stress of everyday life in a boat.
Oliver Lassika from the Energy & Water Networks department at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is one of them. He explains: "WSV Hellas offers excellent rowing training and at the same time gives every recreational athlete the opportunity to practise one of the most beautiful sports. Clubs like this are important for the city of Giessen and the region." Oliver Lassika has therefore suggested supporting WSV Hellas as part of SWG's 75 good deeds in its anniversary year. "A few years ago, we renovated our outdoor area and laid water and power lines, among other things. These were previously not in use," explains Michael Berkowski. SWG has now donated an electricity distribution cabinet, a water hydrant and the corresponding connections to WSV Hellas. Oliver Lassika had already installed the hydrant at the end of March. On Thursday 4 April, he handed over the symbolic donation cheque to Michael Berkowski. He was accompanied by Mathias Leib, also from SWG's Energy & Water Networks department, who handed over the electricity distribution cabinet.
