The town of Lollar regularly supports local organisations to boost their budgets - with an annual charity evening. At the event on Saturday 2 November, Stadtwerke Gießen actively helped to fill the donation pot.
Comedian Martin Schneider's unmistakable style of speech and the laughter of the audience filled the hall of the Lollar community centre last Saturday evening. This was the seventh time that the town had organised a charity event with a top-class stage programme to benefit local associations. Lollar's mayor Dr Bernd Wieczorek explains the reason for this commitment: "Municipalities live to a large extent from their associations. This is because they enable activity in various forms and promote co-operation between citizens. The charity evening has established itself as a permanent institution with which the city aims to financially support voluntary work." To this end, the proceeds from the sale of the tickets go to the youth work of the clubs in Lollar.
More money for children and young people
Melanie Lippert, Head of Customer Change in the Customer Services department at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), considers the charity evening to be an important event. "Thanks to the additional income, the local clubs can increase their often small budgets. This gives them more money for necessary purchases for children and young people, among other things," emphasises the SWG employee, who lives in Salzböden with her two children and husband. Melanie Lippert is very familiar with club life in Lollar - from her own experience as 2nd chairwoman and trainer in the Salzböden youth and folk dance group and as the mother of two active young athletes. Her daughter dances in the Salzböden youth and folk dance group and her son plays football for the Salzböden-Odenhausen football club.
Both clubs have been delighted with the additional income from the charity event in recent years. Among other things, the youth and folk dance group used the money to buy new traditional costumes for performances and to finance coach trips. The football team was able to replace jerseys, nets and balls and the trainers took part in further training.

Last Saturday, SWG also filled the donation pot - the ninth highlight of good deeds in Stadtwerke Giessen's anniversary year. Melanie Lippert, SWG sponsor of the good deed, presented Dr Bernd Wieczorek with the donation cheque for 2,000 euros. The mayor made it clear: "Just like the entire proceeds from the ticket sales, the donations also go to the clubs - and there to youth work. We are therefore very pleased about the support of Stadtwerke Gießen."
