The Queckborn waterworks has been pumping the purest drinking water for 125 years now. Reason enough for Stadtwerke Gießen to celebrate this with an open day.
On 23 June 2019, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) invites you to an open day at the Queckborn waterworks from 11 am to 5 pm. The occasion is an anniversary: water has been coming to Giessen from the historic clinker brick building from the Wilhelminian era for 125 years.
The trip to the Grünberg district is well worthwhile. Experts from SWG guide visitors on regular tours of the waterworks and the fountain garden. They explain all sorts of interesting facts - about the history of the waterworks, water quality, geology, the water supply itself and the modern technology used by SWG today. Of course, children also get their money's worth. SWG will be setting up the familiar and popular hands-on stations from the holiday games as well as a great bouncy castle. Any hunger that arises while playing and on the tours can be satisfied with sausages and cake. Coffee and cool drinks will also be available. And as usual with SWG, everything is available at family-friendly prices.
Free shuttle service
It's easy to get to the open day at the waterworks without your own car. This is because SWG is organising a free special bus service from Giessen to Queckborn. The buses leave at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. from the Ostanlage bus stop opposite the Kinopolis cinema. The return journey from the waterworks is at 1 pm and 4 pm. In order to be able to estimate how many people would like to use the transfer service, SWG would ask you to register on the SWG service telephone by 21 June: 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile networks).
