Training day at Stadtwerke Giessen - with the Giessen guilds for electrical engineering and information technology, for plumbing, heating and air conditioning technology and the district youth fire brigade

The idea behind a joint training day was to give others the opportunity to show what they can do and to illustrate the range of possible applications. On Saturday, SWG opened its training centre to interested young people from 10 am to 3 pm. A wide range of information about training awaited visitors at the depot.

Information tent of the craft guilds
In a tent measuring over 70 square metres, trainees from specialist companies from the guilds for electrical engineering and information technology as well as for sanitary, heating and air-conditioning technology presented their tasks relating to the wide range of domestic installations. Among other things, a meter cupboard and pipe connection techniques were on display to illustrate the processing steps in the house. The interested young people took the opportunity to "try out the trade for themselves": Threads were cut and cables fitted. Further information about training opportunities in the skilled trades was provided by staff from the Giessen District Craftsmen's Association.

Interesting technical discussions
One highlight was the technical discussions moderated by the young people on topics such as "the smell of gas", "how electricity gets into the house" and "smoke alarms". Another highlight was the role play "Chlorine gas accident". Here, young firefighters and SWG trainees gave an impressive demonstration of how to provide professional first aid.

Training centre, SWG shop and natural gas vehicle
The first floor of the training centre provided information about training as an industrial clerk. The trainees from the swimming pool department gave a convincing demonstration of how to give an injured person proper artificial respiration and technology enthusiasts found what they were looking for in the electrical and metal workshops in the training centre. There, visitors were able to look over the shoulders of the technical trainees as they worked and also try things out for themselves. Anyone who wanted to could make their own "solitaire game" and take it home for free. In the SWG shop, the latest trainee project, the young people offered an attractive range of products for sale, which was used extensively. SWG trainees also provided visitors with very clear information about the technology and advantages of a natural gas vehicle.

Fire brigade in action
The fire brigade impressed visitors with its special vehicles for fall protection and accident rescue. At a craft stand, visitors could put their manual skills to the test and make wooden stilts with the help of the youth firefighters, which they could take home for free. In addition to the knowledge imparted on the day, visitors could test their own World Cup skills on a goal wall and win attractive prizes in a competition. The SWG canteen also catered for visitors' physical well-being.
