Operational management of heat generation systems reduced energy consumption

Heating costs are becoming an ever-increasing cost factor, not only for homeowners but also for tenants. This makes it all the more important not to leave any potential savings unutilised. This is precisely what Wohnbau Gießen GmbH and its subsidiary, Wohnbau Mieterservice GmbH, have done in favour of their tenants. Wohnbau Gießen relied on the energy services of Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) for its savings programme. As part of a district heating framework agreement, the municipal utilities took over the operational management of 21 heat generation plants for Wohnbau and since then have not only been responsible for the maintenance and servicing of the plants, but are also constantly on the lookout for optimisation opportunities. Rainer Pauli (Technical Manager of Wohnbau Gießen GmbH) and Willi Schwarz (Project Manager and employee of the district heating supply) worked hand in hand to convert the systems to district heating operation. The municipal utilities now supply 16 properties with environmentally friendly district heating. By switching to district heating, the heating requirements of the individual properties have been reduced by up to 54 per cent.

Advantages of district heating

District heating stands for environmentally friendly and efficient energy generation. Customers who opt for district heating benefit from a high level of supply security and don't have to worry about a thing. The energy supplier delivers the district heating directly to the house - the compact transfer station saves an enormous amount of space, as there is no need for boilers and fuel storage with district heating.
