Wheelchair-accessible conversion of the Ringallee outdoor pool

Stadtwerke Gießen is equipping the Ringallee outdoor pool with a pool lift and a shower and toilet area designed to meet the needs of people with limited mobility.

The Ringallee outdoor pool now offers a wheelchair-accessible sanitary area. This means that Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) can now also offer people with disabilities unhindered access to the showers and toilets. "We want to create an inviting and accessible environment for all guests," emphasises Uwe Volbrecht, Head of Giessen's swimming pools.

The new sanitary facilities complement the newly installed pool lift for wheelchair users. It includes a level-access shower with a folding seat, folding support handles and fittings with extended levers. The toilet is equipped with a backrest and folding support rails. A wheelchair-accessible washbasin with grab rails and single-lever mixer, wheelchair-accessible sockets and automatic lighting facilitate independent use. An emergency call system with visual and acoustic signals provides additional safety.

The conversion was carried out in close cooperation with Samuel Groß, the city of Giessen's representative for the disabled: "The collaboration with the municipal utilities was very constructive. The wheelchair-accessible conversion makes it noticeably easier for bathers with limited mobility to visit the Ringallee outdoor pool." The remodelled sanitary area can be used immediately.
