Clean water is not only essential for survival, but also a natural part of our everyday lives. To show children the journey of this precious liquid from the source to the tap at home, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) once again invited them to visit the waterworks in Queckborn as part of the Fabius holiday play programme this year.
This informative excursion has been an essential part of the holiday programme in the district of Gießen for many years and once again offered fun, action and interesting facts about water.
During an exciting morning, around 460 children from 15 municipalities in the district learned lots of interesting facts about the number one foodstuff and its journey into their own four walls.

Fun, games and learning
The programme began with a film that informed the children about the importance of clean drinking water for humans and the effort involved in extracting and transporting it.
After a culinary refreshment of sausages and sandwiches, sporting activities took centre stage: as part of a water Olympics, for example, the pupils learned in a playful way how water pollution can be prevented. The programme then included an obstacle course that the children had to master. The difficulty here was that the participants were given a container filled with water - the aim was to spill as little of its contents as possible.
At the end of the excursion, each child received a small gift - a ticket for the Ringallee swimming centre.
