Giessen municipal utilities support Grünberg water supply

The water supply contract between Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) and Stadtwerke Grünberg has long been finalised. Now the complex construction work has been completed with the laying of the water pipeline for the supply of drinking water from Queckborn to Grünberg. In future, the precious foodstuff number one will reach Grünberg via a 5.4 kilometre long water pipeline network from the SWG waterworks in Queckborn to the elevated tank (Tannenköppel). During the construction phase, the district of Harbach was included in the construction project and connected via a 3.1 kilometre long pipeline network. SWG invested around 850 thousand euros in the construction project. SWG expects to supply between 200 and 500 thousand cubic metres of water to Grünberg every year. To discuss the work and future co-operation, Grünberg's mayor, Frank Ide, and Hans Pigors, first councillor, met with Manfred Siekmann, chairman of the SWG board, and his board colleague Reinhard Paul, as well as the two operations managers of Stadtwerke Grünberg, Hans-Dieter Glatthaar and Bernhard Linker.

Cooperation between the two municipal utilities
By working together, the two municipal utilities decided to continue to secure the water supply for Grünberg without incurring unnecessary costs. It was a long road to the decision. Grünberg looked at various options and never disregarded economic viability. Experts even carried out a study to examine and evaluate possible supply options. With the water supply contract with Stadtwerke Gießen, the town of Grünberg secured a forward-looking and comprehensive supply partnership for the next 20 years.
