Even if the first sample no longer shows any germs in the water

Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) is continuing to chlorinate the drinking water. "The water sample taken last Friday no longer contains any coliform bacteria. However, as we must have two bacteriologically flawless samples in succession before we can stop chlorination, we must continue to chlorinate until Friday 16 June 2006 as a precautionary measure. This is because it takes three days to incubate the sample taken on Monday, which means that we will not have the final result until Friday due to the public holiday. As before, it is not necessary to boil the water," says graduate engineer Peter Keller, Head of Water Systems Engineering at SWG.

The entire Giessen water network will be chlorinated with the exception of the districts of Lützellinden, Allendorf and Rödgen as well as parts of Kleinlinden.
