Eight SWG bus routes will have to be rerouted due to the Verkehrswende campaign day. The diversions only affect the coming Saturday.
Various groups have invited people to the traffic turnaround action day on 20 June. This will have a massive impact on bus services. This is because the two lanes from Berliner Platz via Ludwigsplatz and Grünberger Straße to Licher Gabel will be closed to all traffic due to the event. Consequently, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will have to re-route buses on lines 1, 2, 3/13, 7, 9, 801 and 802. Lines 5, 12, 15 and 800 will follow the known routes.
However, a bicycle demonstration will start at around 4 pm as part of this event. As a result, traffic obstructions are to be expected in the entire city centre area. It is very likely that the city buses will also be affected.
The diversions in detail:
Line 1 runs in the direction of Sophie-Scholl-Schule and Rödgen from the "Johanneskirche" stop to the "Behördenzentrum" stop, continuing via Ostanlage, Moltkestraße and Grünberger Straße to the "Wolfstraße" stop. No diversion is necessary in the opposite direction.
Line 2 runs in the direction of Eichendorffring from the "Marktplatz" stop to the "Behördenzentrum" stop, then via Ostanlage, Moltkestraße and Licher Straße to the "Nahrungsberg" stop. Here, too, the buses run in the opposite direction on the regular route.
In the direction of Schwarzacker/Schlangenzahl/Dialysis Centre, lines 3 and 13 will serve the "Stadttheater" stop after the "Marktplatz" stop, then take Südanlage and Bismarckstraße to the "Liebigschule" stop.
In the direction of the cemetery, they follow the same route in the opposite direction, i.e. from the "Liebigschule" stop via Bismarckstraße, Südanlage and Neue Bäue to the "Stadttheater" stop.
Line 7 runs in the direction of Philosophenwald from the "Marktplatz" stop to the "Behördenzentrum" stop. It continues via Ostanlage, Moltkestraße and Eichgärtenallee to the "Schwanenteich" stop. In the opposite direction, Evangelisches Krankenhaus, everything will remain as usual.
Line 9 runs between the stops "Alfred-Bock-Straße" and "Marktplatz" in both directions via Bismarckstraße and Südanlage and serves the stop "Stadttheater".
Line 801 in the direction of Ostschule will be routed in the same way as line 2 after the "Behördenzentrum" stop via Ostanlage, Moltkestraße and Licher Straße to the "Nahrungsberg" stop. Journeys that normally terminate at the "Berliner Platz" stop will run without a diversion. Buses travelling in the direction of Weststadt/Launsbach-Wißmar will follow the usual route.
Route 802 in the direction of Philosophikum II uses the same alternative route as routes 3 and 13: from the "Marktplatz" stop to the "Stadttheater" stop and then via Südanlage and Bismarckstraße to the "Liebigschule" stop. The diversions are also cancelled here if the journey ends regularly at the "Berliner Platz" stop. The opposite route applies in the direction of Weststadt/Krofdorf-Gleiberg: from the "Liebigschule" stop via Bismarckstraße, Südanlage and Neuen Bäue to the "Stadttheater" stop.
