The Salzböden e.V. youth and folk dance group is being kitted out with new traditional skirts. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is also contributing to the cost of fabrics and trimmings with one of the "75 good deeds" in the anniversary year. Michael Klein from the Energy and Water Networks department at SWG suggested the youth and folk dance group for the good deeds because he himself danced enthusiastically in the club for 22 years. "I'm now a passive member, but the club is still just as close to my heart as it used to be. And our daughter Elisa now represents the family in one of the children's groups," says Michael Klein, explaining his commitment. In Salzböden, many more children and young people are enthusiastic about traditional dances: around 50 three to fourteen-year-olds, divided into three groups, come to the weekly practice sessions. At the end of May, SWG sponsor Michael Klein presented the first chairwoman of the youth and folk dance group, Lore Klein, and tailor Elfriede Becker with a cheque to purchase the materials for five "Marburg Protestant traditional costumes". Elfriede Becker will sew the elaborate dresses from the fabrics and trimmings that the dance group will buy from the donation: she estimates ten to twelve hours per skirt. "We are delighted that we are now receiving five more traditional skirts. With a bit of luck, they will be ready for the Hessentag parade - one of the annual highlights," hopes Lore Klein. In addition to the highlight in Kassel, the youth and folk dance group will also be performing in Bensheim this summer at the state children's traditional costume meeting and at the midsummer celebrations in Salzböden on 22 June.
