Nutritionists Franca Mangiameli and Tabea Pratz launch the dual weight loss programme Top-Forming at the Ringallee swimming centre together with Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG)

We've all been there: countless crash diets and each one ends with more weight than before thanks to the yo-yo effect. Many dieters eat less and less, but the pounds don't come off. Most people in this situation have long since stopped enjoying food. Added to this is the lack of exercise due to the lack of sports programmes for this target group. With Top-Forming, SWG offers a special weight loss programme tailored to this target group at the Ringallee swimming centre. This programme integrates sensibly dosed exercise with nutritional advice.

In the 10-week group course, experts from the Dr Ambrosius Institute impart nutritional knowledge and bring participants up to date with the latest nutritional science: whereas in the past the focus was on fats as fatteners, today there are more and more studies that show that an abundance of carbohydrates in the form of starch and sugar promotes obesity and diet-related illnesses. Therefore, in addition to fat quality, the glycaemic index (glyx) and glycaemic load (carbohydrate content) are also taken into account in the course. After all, they determine how much of the fattening hormone insulin is produced.

The "aqua biking" sports programme (= spinning under water) ensures a high energy turnover and boosts the metabolism and fat burning. The highly efficient training is easy on the joints and increases well-being. In combination with nutritional counselling, aqua biking is ideal for anyone who wants to reduce their weight. To take part in the underwater biking course, participants must be able to swim.

Great results:

The results of an analysis carried out as part of Yvonne Schrüffer's bachelor's thesis show: Before Top Forming, around 63% of participants (TN) complained of back and joint pain, diabetes and other illnesses. More than half of the illnesses have improved significantly as a result of Top Forming. The well-being of 90% of those surveyed has improved. On average, the participants achieved 75% of their goals. 99% of respondents have changed their eating and nutritional behaviour. The average weight loss was 7kg in 10 weeks.

Anyone interested can find out more about Top-Forming at the free information evening on Monday, 30 March 2009 at 19:00 in the Ringallee bathing centre, Gutfleischstraße 24 in Giessen.
