Stadtwerke Gießen and SC 1929 Waldgirmes are working together for three years.
Attractive football in the Hessenliga - that's what SC 1929 Waldgirmes wants to show its fans. The club and Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) have extended their partnership, which began in 2014, to ensure that they can continue to do so over the next three years: Representatives of SC Waldgirmes and SWG signed a cooperation agreement that will run for three years.
"This new contract gives us a good deal of planning security," said a delighted Manfred Klas, Chairman of SC Waldgirmes, on the occasion. As a reliable sponsor, SWG actively contributes to the team's ability to perform on the pitch every week. "To survive in the Hessenliga, we need financial support," adds Patrick Rauber, who is responsible for sponsorship at the club. Because the fact is: good players are only half the battle. A well-functioning coaching and support staff are at least as important. And last but not least, travelling to the 19 away games also costs money.
Youth also benefits
At SC 1929 Waldgirmes, solid youth development has always been part of the concept. The U23s play successfully in the Verbandsliga - just one division below the first team. In no fewer than eleven children's and youth teams, dedicated coaches nurture the talents of tomorrow. "It is precisely this combination of attractive competitive sport and very broad-based youth work that we are happy to support," says SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos, explaining the expansion of the cooperation and drawing an important parallel: "Like us, the club attaches great importance to sustainable work."
SC Waldgirmes has done very well with this idea so far: promoted again in 2017, the club has long since re-established itself in the Hessenliga and finished last season in eighth place. "We would like to achieve a single-digit place in the table again," is how Manfred Klas formulates the goal for the current season. Although it got off to a bumpy start, the SC is now back on track. The ninth matchday should prove to be particularly exciting. There will be a derby in Waldgirmes in two respects: with FSV Fernwald, the sports club will not only be hosting a neighbour from the region, but also a team that SWG also support.
