Municipal utilities help the next generation of Giessen firefighters get off to a good start in their careers with a practical workshop.

Giessen. As part of the SWG initiative "Fire brigade of the future", an event was held at the end of August for young career starters who volunteer with the voluntary fire brigades. Stadtwerke Gießen had organised a free workshop on the subject of job applications in collaboration with Sprache & Bildung GmbH from Gießen. The event was attended by 15 young people aged between 14 and 18. For one day, they had ample opportunity to find out about their own skills and wishes and then present them in practice situations, i.e. job interviews. Of course, there were also many answers to the most frequently asked questions. For example: How do I design an application portfolio and how does my cover letter stand out from the mass of letters? The young participants also received help with the presentation of their CVs and know-how on the subject of online applications.
The advantage of the practical workshop: Many difficult points could be dealt with directly in the interview. "It really helped me," says Christian Lind from the Lich volunteer fire brigade. "I realised that it's important to look at myself first. In other words, to see what I'm good at and then to gather as much information as possible about the career I'm interested in. I now know how I can really best prepare for my application."
