On Tuesday afternoon, the secret was revealed in the centre of Giessen. Fabius, the SWG dragon, will be the new mascot for the GIESSEN 46ers with immediate effect. During the presentation in Löwengasse, Thorsten Leibenath, the GIESSEN 46ers' assistant coach, explained that "we are facing a new season that we have to start with new power, new energy and new fire". The fire-breathing mythical creature Fabius, who has been the mascot for one of the 46ers' premium partners, Stadtwerke Gießen AG, for some time now, is the perfect new lucky charm. In the past, Fabius has often been able to prove "that he brings good luck", said Manfred Siekmann, Chairman of the SWG Management Board. "I am sure that he will also help the 46ers."
Today, Fabius enjoyed great popularity in the city centre of Giessen, especially among the younger visitors. For example, when he handed out a huge number of small stuffed kites or when he was prancing around on the roof of the SWG city bus emblazoned with 46ers logos. Fabius and the GIESSEN 46ers players and coaches had previously been driven directly to the venue in the bus. After fulfilling numerous autograph and photo requests, the 46ers team made its way back to the Osthalle, where one of the last training sessions in preparation for the first home game of the new BBL season against Bremerhaven took place shortly afterwards. The new 46ers mascot Fabius will of course also be back in action in the East Sports Hall at the season's home premiere on Friday (14 October, 8 p.m.).
