Giessen local transport

This year's fare and timetable change in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) will take place on Sunday, 13 December 2009.

Takeover of operation of lines 800, 801 and 802

With the termination of the transport contract between the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund and Regionalverkehr Kurhessen for a partial service on lines 800, 801 and 802 at this year's timetable change, Stadtwerke Gießen will take over the complete transport service between Gießen and Wettenberg. The associated transport service will be provided by MIT.BUS GmbH, a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Gießen. Newly procured natural gas vehicles are used. In addition to the usual single, day and group tickets of price levels 1-7 in the Rhine-Main transport network, tickets for the special Wettenberg fare and season tickets for the Wettenberg - Giessen route in price level 2 can still be purchased on the buses of Stadtwerke Giessen. Season tickets for all other routes in the Rhine-Main transport network can be purchased at the mobility centre on Marktplatz or at other advance booking offices.

Changes to fares and sales

Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund GmbH is increasing prices by an average of 2.8 per cent for this year's fare change. This is in line with last year's price increase of 2.9 per cent. Increased costs for the use of stations and tracks, higher personnel costs and higher energy prices are having a significant impact on costs. Nevertheless, buses and trains continue to be very attractive mobility options in terms of price.

General price increases, but in particular higher personnel and fuel costs, also have an impact on Giessen's city bus fares. For example, the single ticket for adults will increase from 1.50 euros to 1.60 euros. Instead of 33.70 euros, a monthly ticket will cost 34.60 euros in future. In future, monthly tickets for trainees can be purchased for 28.20 euros. The 9 o'clock ticket will increase in price from 28.70 euros to 29.40 euros. For Gießenpass tickets, the price of a single ticket will increase to 0.80 euros. The monthly ticket will increase from 17.70 euros to 18.10 euros. Pupils and trainees will pay 14.10 euros for their monthly ticket instead of 13.80 euros.

The annual tickets for everyone and the CleverCard for schoolchildren and trainees remain particularly favourable for frequent travellers. The following applies to the annual travelcard: travel for twelve months and pay for ten months; the same applies to the CleverCard: travel for twelve months and pay for eight months.
