Giessen local transport

On Sunday, 10 December 2006, the fare and timetable change in the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV) will take place. This will also result in changes to Giessen's city bus services.

Fare change

The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund will be increasing fares by an average of 5.9 % on the occasion of the fare change. According to RMV, the drastic increase compared to previous years is due to cuts in federal funding for local public transport. This increase will also affect Giessen's city bus fares. For example, the single ticket for adults will increase from 1.35 euros to 1.40 euros. Instead of 30.00 euros, the monthly ticket will now cost 31.90 euros. Monthly tickets for trainees can be purchased for 25.10 euros in future. The 9 o'clock ticket will increase in price from 25.50 euros to 27.20 euros. The price of single tickets for the Giessen Pass will remain the same. The monthly adult ticket will increase from 15.80 euros to 16.80 euros. Trainees pay 12.60 euros for their monthly ticket instead of 11.90 euros.

Timetable change

Significant changes to the Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) city bus timetable concern the school holiday periods and the departure times of route 12 (Sandfeld - Gewerbegebiet West).

SWG has summarised what is new after the timetable change for its customers:

Various line reinforcement journeys on lines 1, 3 and 802 will only be operated on school days in future. Other changes affect lines 1, 2, 12 and 24, with the 15:38 journey from the US depot on line 1 being cancelled all year round due to a lack of demand. Additional direct buses have been added to the timetable in the afternoon for residents of the student hall of residence in Grünberger Straße. In order to ensure connections between line 1 and the other city bus lines in the evening and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, the buses will leave Lützellinden, Allendorf and Kleinlinden 2 minutes earlier. The journey times between Marktplatz and the railway station have been shortened on route 2. The departure times of line 12 have been shifted by 15 minutes. From the timetable change, lines 7 and 12 will no longer depart from Marktplatz at the same time as before. Stadtwerke is thus responding to many customer requests for a connection between Weststadt and the city centre every 15 minutes. In the direction of Heuchelheim - Lahnau - Wetzlar, line 24 will depart one minute later from the Oswaldsgarten stop.

SWG staff are available to answer any questions on the subject of mobility at the mobility centre in the infoCentre on Marktplatz. The mobility centre is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00. The new timetable booklet is also available there for 1.80 euros.
