In Giessen, suspected fraudsters are once again pretending to be employees of Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) in order to gain access to flats. In two cases in Kopbacher Weg and Herderweg, several people pretended to customers of SWG that they wanted to see the contract documents or needed the meter and invoice number. In Klinikstraße, a man at the front door also claimed that he needed to check the electricity bill. However, the suspected fraudsters were unable or unwilling to identify themselves.
"The customers concerned did exactly the right thing and did not let the strangers into their homes or hand over any documents or data. SWG employees can always show ID when they are out and about on our behalf," emphasises Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at Stadtwerke Gießen.
He also points out that caution is also required on the telephone. Currently, dubious providers are calling customers, pretending to be SWG employees, asking for personal details and offering new contracts. "Anyone who receives such calls should never give out their data without thinking, but should ideally hang up immediately and contact us if in doubt to make sure," explains Ulli Boos.

Those affected can contact SWG by calling the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from German landlines and all German mobile networks), at the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz or by email at info@stadtwerke-giessen.de
