Once again, suspected fraudsters are trying to obtain the data of customers of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) by telephone. One such call was received by a gentleman in Pohlheim. He reported a conversation in which his attention was drawn to an alleged 40 per cent increase in SWG electricity prices. His counterpart on the phone referred to a supposed letter from April 2017 and asked for the customer's details.

"The statement about the price adjustment is completely made up out of thin air. It is probably only intended to create pressure. We assume that the call is unfair competition from dubious providers. Customers should therefore not pass on their data under any circumstances," warns Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at SWG. Stadtwerke Gießen recommends hanging up immediately if fraud is suspected and contacting SWG. "The customer from Pohlheim did exactly the right thing. Customer or meter numbers should not be given out over the phone," explains Ulli Boos.

Anyone who has received a similar call can contact SWG directly - by calling the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile networks), at the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz or by e-mail at
