Electricity customers of Stadtwerke Gießen should not react lightly to alleged calls from electricity traders these days, warns SWG company spokeswoman Ina Weller. "Customers have recently reported fake calls to us. The suspected fraudsters pretend to be employees of Stadtwerke Giessen on the phone and are probably trying to obtain account data or other sensitive information," Ina Weller continues. Stadtwerke Gießen expressly points out that such calls never originate from SWG, as they usually contact their customers in writing for legal reasons, among others. If, in rare cases, the municipal utilities do call directly, there is a specific reason for this, which is often already known to the customer - for example, if it is a previously requested callback or fault rectification. "What's more, we don't have to ask for our own customers' data first," Ina Weller points out. Caution is advised at the latest when this happens on the phone. "Anyone who is unsure whether they have been called by a fraudster should, if possible, make a note of the caller number and name and contact the municipal utilities directly." Questions of this kind and information on choosing the right electricity or natural gas product can be answered by the Stadtwerke staff on the SWG service number 0180 22 11 100 from Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.. SWG's real tariff information is also available on the Internet at www.stadtwerke-giessen.de.
