Once again, fraudsters are trying to lure electricity customers into a new contract over the phone. They pretend to be calling on behalf of Stadtwerke Gießen. An infamous lie.
At almost regular intervals, fraudsters launch campaigns to sell electricity contracts over the phone. They usually use a similar scam: They pretend to be employees of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) and make a cheaper offer as such. There is currently one known number that is sent along with the fraudulent calls: 08654 682442.
"We can only advise you to cancel such calls - without hesitation and without giving reasons. Just hang up," says Ina Weller, company spokesperson for SWG. Because the claim to be working for SWG is simply a lie. This could easily be established if the conversation continued. Because in order to close the deal, the crook needs an important piece of information - the meter number. He will therefore ask for it relatively quickly. And thus expose himself. Because: "We at Stadtwerke Gießen never ask for the meter number, we know it," explains Ina Weller.
Help requested
Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to put a stop to these dodgy characters. Nevertheless, SWG is doing everything it can. That is why they ask victims of such attempted fraud to contact SWG and describe the case. SWG then collects all the information and uses it to warn other citizens and prevent damage.
