Once again, dubious businessmen are trying to enrich themselves at the expense of electricity customers and Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). They are using a scam that is already familiar in principle: the fraudsters call SWG customers. They claim to be doing this on behalf of Stadtwerke Gießen. The aim is to switch the potential victims to a different tariff. "A brazen lie. In reality, those affected - if they accept the offer - would end up with a different supplier and sooner or later probably even pay significantly more," explains Ina Weller, company spokesperson for SWG.

Further information

Unlike usual, at least one of the current callers left another identifying feature: he alsosent the number 0419 12366023. "If this number appears on the display, you shouldn't even pick up the phone," recommends Ina Weller. As a rule, however, such dodgy characters call anonymously. Which is why it can be assumed that it is a case of carelessness and the number has since been suppressed. Ina Weller therefore gives another important piece of advice: "If the caller tries to involve you in a conversation, simply hang up. And very importantly, don't give out any personal details or your customer number on the phone. Never. Because someone from Stadtwerke Giessen won't ask for it. After all, we have all this information."

It is extremely difficult to put a stop to these fraudsters. The evidence is often insufficient. In order to be able to press charges, SWG is asking for active support: "We are grateful for any information we receive from our customers in this regard," adds Ina Weller. So anyone who is harassed by callers with dubious intentions in the near future or in the future can contact the SWG service number: 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from German landlines and mobile phones).
