Suspected fraudsters have repeatedly posed as employees of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) over the past few days. In two known cases, they tried to lure SWG customers at the front door with allegedly cheaper electricity and water tariffs. "We don't know whether they were after the signature alone or wanted to gain access to the flat," explains Matthias Acker, deputy company spokesman for Stadtwerke Giessen, adding that one of the customers affected described how the men were most likely carrying fake IDs that they wanted to show him. However, as the alleged fraud victim is blind, he was unable to check the documents. "It remains to be seen whether the men were actually carrying IDs. If so, then the question arises as to how closely they resemble our originals," says Matthias Acker. He therefore recommends taking a close look at the relevant documents. He also emphasises: "When our employees visit customers, it's not to sell them something on their doorstep. There are no such advertising campaigns at Stadtwerke Gießen."

Anyone who also suspects fraud is asked by SWG to contact customer service immediately. The employees can be reached on the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile phone networks) from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
