Dodgy electricity bills have now also appeared in Giessen. Municipal utilities advise caution.

After electricity customers across Germany have received fake energy bills in recent weeks, several fake bills have now also appeared in Giessen. Stadtwerke Gießen is therefore urgently warning its customers not to pay dubious electricity bills from unknown suppliers without asking. The sender of the fake invoices is an alleged "Stadtwerke GmbH & Kraftwerke AG". Their letter contains a detailed but false consumption statement as well as a pre-filled bank transfer form, which is apparently intended to tempt customers to make a hasty payment.

"At first glance, the invoices really do look astonishingly genuine," warns SWG company spokeswoman Ina Weller. "We therefore ask our customers to take a close look. If the bill does not explicitly come from Stadtwerke Gießen and does not state the correct customer number and consumption point, something is very probably wrong."

SWG recommends all those affected to contact SWG's customer service in case of doubt. This can be reached on 0180/2211100 from Monday to Friday from 7 am to 7 pm. Suspected counterfeit bills can of course also be submitted directly to the SWG staff at the infoCentre on Giessen's Marktplatz for examination.
