Stadtwerke Gießen and Turnteam Linden extend their co-operation for another three years.

Turnteam Linden - for many years, this name has been synonymous with a successful association: that of the male competitive gymnasts from TV 1892 Großen-Linden and TV 07 Watzenborn-Steinberg, supplemented by national and international guest athletes. From 24 September 2022, the twelve gymnasts led by coach Christian Hambüchen will once again be competing for points on the floor, high bar, parallel bars, pommel horse, rings and vault in the second Bundesliga Nord. And with the support of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). The partnership with Turnteam Linden has been in place since 2011 and will definitely continue for another three years. This is according to the contract recently signed by representatives of the Turnteam Linden e. V. support association and SWG.

Top-class sport needs sponsors

Germany is considered to be the birthplace of the gymnastics movement in the century before last. However, the currently active athletes no longer notice much of this long tradition. Even when superstar Fabian Hambüchen was still causing a furore at the top of the world rankings, artistic gymnastics in this country was more of a fringe sport that could only be admired on television once every four years - at the Olympic Games. Or live in one of the few strongholds - in Linden, for example. "That's why we're really grateful that SWG has supported us as a sponsor for all these years," says Martin Weber, 1st Chairman of the Linden Gymnastics Team Association. "You can't do it without sponsors like this."

Anyone who has ever watched a competition knows that artistic gymnastics offers a high entertainment value. The athletes combine strength, agility and a good dose of courage to perform routines that regularly amaze laypeople. And not just on the big international stage. What the athletes of the Linden gymnastics team perform in competition also deserves the highest recognition. "The discipline alone that is required to reach this level is admirable," says Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing & Communication at SWG.

Of course, the Linden gymnastics team is not completely detached from its two parent clubs. Gymnastics is still very important to them - especially for children and young people. Which is why young talents regularly grow up here. "The Bundesliga gymnasts are simply great role models," says Thomas Pfeiffer, 2nd Chairman of the Förderverein Turnteam Linden e. V., with conviction. "This connection was another reason for us to continue the cooperation as before. After all, gymnastics is the ideal introduction for children to many different sports," adds Ulli Boos.
