SWG remains top partner of the GIESSEN 46ers

SWG will continue to support the GIESSEN 46ers for the next three years.
Giessen is and remains a basketball stronghold. Whether in the highest or second-highest German league, the GIESSEN 46ers manage to fill the Ostschule sports hall to capacity. And to deliver many thrilling games. By reaching the semi-final play-offs in May last year, promotion back to the top division was within reach. "This success allows us to look to the future with optimism, as it shows that many things are already going in the right direction," explains Guido Heerstraß, Managing Director of GIESSEN 46ers. Head Coach Branislav Ignjatovic has therefore formulated a clear goal for the coming season: Finals and promotion to the first Bundesliga.
On the way there, they can continue to count on the support of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). The GIESSEN 46ers and SWG have extended their co-operation agreement by a further three years.
"We are happy and grateful that SWG will continue to support us as a top partner," adds Jana Freimuth, responsible for Marketing & Events at the 46ers. In fact, attractive professional sport at this level is not possible without committed sponsors. The income from entrance fees and merchandising is nowhere near enough to cover the costs and ultimately to sign up a competitive team that not only plays, but also inspires the audience. "And that's what it's all about at the end of the day. We want to entertain our fans and make every evening in the Osthalle an experience," adds Guido Heerstraß.
Successful together for decades
SWG and the GIESSEN 46ers have enjoyed a reliable partnership for more than 20 years. This continued even when things weren't going so well in sporting terms and the team had to make the difficult journey to the second division. "The 46ers are simply part of Giessen, always give their all and inspire people, especially in front of their home crowd - regardless of the league they play in. We want to continue to support that," said Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing & Communications at SWG, explaining the long-term contract extension. This also means that the SWG mascot Fabius will continue to wear the 46ers jersey and appear as the 46ers' mascot in the upcoming home games. The likeable dragon motivates the fans to really step on the gas and cheer the team to victory. He also ensures a good mood with his interludes and tricks when there is nothing going on on the pitch due to breaks or time-outs.
The 2025/2026 season kicks off on 27 September with an away game in Kirchheim. The first home game of the season in the Osthalle on 4 October is a real cracker: the 46ers face their old rivals Phoenix Hagen. "The coming season also promises exciting, thrilling home games. I'm sure that the team will once again be fully committed and offer the spectators outstanding sport," says a delighted Ulli Boos.
