In order to offer a bit of normality again next summer, Giessen's swimming pools are already exploring how they can open their three outdoor pools.
For many people - especially young people and families with children - regular visits to the outdoor pools are part of summer. To make this possible, those responsible at Giessen's swimming pools began planning the outdoor pool season a few weeks ago. "The dates have already been finalised," says Uwe Volbrecht, head of the Giessen pools. It has also been decided that all three Giessen outdoor pools will be open.
Monitoring the infection rate
However, all of these plans are subject to a massive caveat: the operating restriction ordinance, which depends on the development of infection figures. "We can't make any reliable forecasts here," says Uwe Volbrecht. But that doesn't stop him and his employees from doing everything necessary. For example, upcoming maintenance and repair work has been ordered - just like in a normal year. The much more complex personnel planning has also largely been finalised. "We are confident that it will be possible to open the Ringallee outdoor pool and the outdoor pools in Lützellinden and Kleinlinden under pandemic conditions," summarises Uwe Volbrecht. This means that drastic restrictions on visitor numbers can also be expected in the 2021 season. For this reason, Giessen's pools are also extending their online ticket system to the district pools. As Uwe Volbrecht puts it: "We hope to be able to offer our pool guests at least a little bit of normality and are looking forward to the summer ahead."
