The 20-strong dragon boat team from Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG), "Die Rohrleger", put in a thoroughly respectable performance last Saturday in Kettwig near Essen. The SWG paddlers took seventh place at the 11th Kettwig Dragon Boat Regatta. Places one to six were taken by rowing clubs. The rowing team had to test their strength in three races over the 250 metre sprint distance.
The SWG team got faster from race to race and in the end left 16 teams behind with a best time of 1:02.85 minutes.
With this race result, the team celebrated the end of the season and reviewed the successful 2008 season.
It is already certain that the SWG pipers will be competing again next year.
