The Stadtwerke Gießen dragon boat team, "Die Rohrleger", put in an outstanding performance last weekend in Frankfurt. The paddlers took second place in the 4th International Dragon Boat Race. With a best time of 1:13.40 minutes, the Rohrleger team beat a total of 67 starters in the VGF Company Cup and finished on the podium. The Rohrleger team had to test their strength in six races over the 250 metre sprint distance.
Team captain Oliver Lassika was more than satisfied with the result. "Nobody in the boat would have expected this great result, because our focus was on fun and team spirit," says Oliver Lassika.
The success of the 25-strong team, seven of whom are women, will not be the last.
The SWG dragon boat team will be competing in Marburg on 13 July and on 16 August the pipers will be competing on their home course in Giessen.
Dragon boat racing is becoming increasingly popular. In dragon boat racing, everyone is literally in the same boat: hardly any other sport promotes team spirit as much as dragon boat racing. Modern dragon boat events advertise fairness, tolerance and a family atmosphere - away from fanaticism.
If you haven't tried it yet, you should definitely get into the boat with your friends, colleagues or family and let yourself be drawn into the spell of the loud drums and wild paddle strokes.
