At the VGF Dragon Boat Festival on 26 May in Frankfurt am Main, the Stadtwerke Gießen pipe-laying team came out on top against the competition. This year, the men and women took the winners' trophy in the company cup to Central Hesse.
A total of 41 teams competed against each other in the three categories Fun, Sport and Company Cup on the Main, each competing in four heats on a 250 metre sprint course. The three best times were taken into account and added together. In the end, the result was clear: the second-placed company team beat the pipe-laying team by more than three seconds. "We enjoy training together regularly in our free time anyway. When we also take part in races so successfully, we are of course doubly pleased," emphasises team manager Oliver Lassika from Stadtwerke Gießen.
On 10 June, the Rohrleger team will once again be up against the competition at the 13th North Hesse Dragon Boat Championships in Vöhl on Lake Edersee. "It's going to be hard work. We rate the opponents in this pure Sport Cup race as much stronger than the starting field in Frankfurt am Main," explains Oliver Lassika.
However, he is confident and is already looking forward to another highlight this year with the entire team - the Dragon Boat Festival on 23 June on the Fühlinger See in Cologne.
