Swimming, splashing around and relaxing in the open air - the Ringallee outdoor pool will be open again this weekend. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will open the 2016 outdoor pool season on Sunday, 8 May: "Summer can come. Over the past few weeks, we have completed the usual work that has to be done every year. We had to repair minor and major winter damage, clean the facilities, prepare the sand at the water playground and overhaul the play equipment," says Uwe Volbrecht, Head of Pool Operations at SWG.
Swimming fun, culinary offerings and Wi-Fi
The opening hours of the Ringallee outdoor pool will remain the same in 2016 - daily from 9 am to 8 pm. Early swimmers can swim their laps from 7 am. Even at comparatively low temperatures in the morning hours, they don't have to freeze in the sports pool. Since 2014, SWG has been using the residual exhaust heat from the nearby combined heat and power plant to heat the water. "This is very popular with visitors," reports Uwe Volbrecht.
SWG will also be offering its bathers a new service away from the pools in future. They can use a publicly accessible WLAN on the grounds of the Ringallee outdoor pool. Customers of Stadtwerke Gießen receive unlimited access with a bandwidth of two megabits per second. For non-customers, the connection speed drops to one megabit per second after 30 minutes. Additional time can be booked for a fee.
If you want to eat something while surfing the Internet or need a snack after swimming, you can look forward to a wider range of culinary delights. Over the course of the season, SWG will also be operating the terrace of the completely modernised Aquabistro. The exact date has not yet been finalised.
Prices in the new season
Also new in the 2016 season: students of Justus Liebig University Giessen will receive a chip at the ticket office on presentation of their semester ticket, which they can use to access the outdoor pool during normal opening hours. Admission is possible once a day.
After two years without an increase, SWG will have to raise the entrance fee slightly from this season. From now on, a single ticket will cost 3 euros, a 10-person ticket 24 euros and a season ticket for adults 84 euros.
