SWG modernise medium-voltage line
Due to the modernisation of a power line, a section of Röderring will have to be closed for around six weeks.
Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is currently extending the district heating network in Ludwig-Richter-Straße and its side streets Wingert and Niederfeldstraße. At the same time, SWG is renewing the electricity, gas and water pipes, which were due to be renovated in the next few years anyway. As part of this modernisation work, the energy specialists from Lahnstrasse are replacing a medium-voltage line around 120 metres long. It runs through the footpath between Ludwig-Richter-Straße and Röderring and on to a transformer station located just before the entrance to the Käthe Kollwitz School. "The new cable serves to ensure security of supply for the entire neighbourhood," says SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos, explaining the construction work. The city of Giessen is also renewing a car park and planting a tree.
The laying work will begin on 19 May and is scheduled to be completed by the end of June. As the new power cable will run under the carriageway in the Röderring area, a full road closure between house numbers 28 and 32 cannot be avoided. In addition, the car parks in this area will not be usable for the duration of the construction work. The pavement between Ludwig-Richter-Straße and Röderring will also remain closed until the construction work is completed.
