Celebration of 150 years of gas supply comes to an end

On Monday, the "ice glitter" organised by Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) attracted hundreds of visitors to the Hessenhallen in Giessen. Pupils from classes 6a and 6c at IGS Busecker Tal kicked off the ice rink in the morning. Hendryk Schamberger, who made a name for himself between 1992 and 1995 with multiple German ice dancing championship titles, provided plenty of fun and learning success. He still has a passion for the sport on two blades. Most recently, the current ice dance coach of the Berlin TSC appeared on the RTL show "Dancing on Ice". From 4 p.m., the ice coach attracted hundreds of visitors to the eight-centimetre-thick, 15 x 20 metre ice surface in Hall 5 of the Hessenhalle. Together with German junior champion Paul Boll, Schamberger introduced visitors to the secrets of skating technique. Visitors to the ice gliding event learnt how to glide across the ice, from the first standing position to the correct turn and the jump into the backwards movement.

Ice skating until 9 December
Until Saturday, 9 December, the Stadtwerke will be inviting visitors to the free SWG ice skating event every day. In the mornings, registered school classes can put their skills to the test on the ice. In the afternoon, the rink is open to all ice fans from 4 pm to 10 pm. Cool music provides the right beat on the ice. If you don't have your own skates, you can hire some for a deposit. The SWG ice skating event marks the end of the anniversary year "150 years of gas supply in Giessen".
