SWG honours jubilarians
In 2025, 15 employees at Stadtwerke Gießen are celebrating their 25th or even 40th anniversary of service.
Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) recently held a small celebration to honour 15 employees celebrating anniversaries. Five of them have been working for SWG for 25 years, the remaining ten for 40 years. The impressive length of service of these employees speaks in favour of SWG as an employer. "The fact that so many employees have remained loyal to us for decades fills us with pride," emphasises Andreas Hergaß, Commercial Director of SWG, adding: "This continuity shows that people obviously find more than just a job at SWG."
Meaningful work in a team
The average length of service at SWG is just under 18 years. But what makes Stadtwerke Gießen an employer where so many employees spend such a long time in their careers? There are many reasons for this: working at SWG means doing a thoroughly meaningful job. After all, supplying the region with energy and water, ensuring local public transport and operating swimming pools is highly relevant to society. In addition, each and every individual can contribute to the success of the whole and see how their own work has an impact.
Teamwork plays another important role in the satisfaction of long-serving employees at SWG. "The collegial cohesion in our company is something very special," says Matthias Funk, Technical Director at SWG. This togetherness is essential in order to realise the large-scale projects that are typical of utility companies - such as the current PowerLahn, an innovative combined heat and power plant with three river water heat pumps at its heart. "Such a completely new project, even for us, can only be successfully managed if everyone involved plays their part and supports each other," adds Matthias Funk.
Last but not least, SWG invests in its employees and thus in the future of the company: through regular training and further education. This ensures that all employees are always up to date and can develop not only professionally but also personally - regardless of age.
Into the future with experience
In addition to flexible working time models, attractive social benefits and a modern working environment, SWG scores points above all with its appreciation and respect for its employees. "Obviously the overall package is right. And this is reflected in the large number of people who have been with us for decades - not least those celebrating an anniversary this year," explains Sven Erik Schmidt, Deputy Chairman of the SWG Works Council. These experienced specialists play a key role in the company's success. After all, they form the backbone of the company. "With their expertise, commitment and loyalty, they act as role models for all those who join us and strengthen our team for future challenges," explains Andreas Hergaß.
