The numerous volunteers of the DLRG in Giessen do valuable work to ensure the safety of local lakes and rivers. Stadtwerke Gießen has long supported this commitment in a variety of ways - most recently with a donation of 5,000 euros.
The DLRG Kreisgruppe Gießen e.V. is one of the most important rescue organisations in the region. One of its most important tasks is to intervene as a helper in local waters in times of need. In addition, the many volunteers are also involved in disaster control and were involved in flood operations on the Oder and Elbe rivers, for example. In particular, many young people from Giessen and the surrounding area train with the DLRG every year to become lifeguards, paramedics, boat drivers, motorists or radio operators.
"The countless voluntary hours invested by DLRG members are invaluable. We have long supported this work in various ways - including financially, as we did today with a donation," explained Uwe Volbrecht, head of the swimming pool department at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), at the cheque presentation on 24 January at SWG headquarters.
In 2017, SWG once again decided not to send Christmas presents to its business partners. The reason: this way, the company saves money, which it prefers to donate to charitable institutions or organisations in the region. In the case of DLRG Kreisgruppe Gießen e.V., this means a donation of 5,000 euros, which Uwe Volbrecht presented to Chairman Alexander Sack.
Money for reconstruction
A large number of charitable and non-profit associations can only fulfil their important tasks with the help of donations. This is all the more true for the DLRG Kreisgruppe Gießen e.V., as the clubhouse on the River Lahn fell victim to a fire just over a year ago. It was burnt out together with the Aura restaurant and the premises of the Rot-Weiß-Club Gießen e.V. dance club. Alexander Sack was therefore delighted to receive the cheque from SWG: "The initial reconstruction work has just begun. There is still a long way to go and we can use every cent. On behalf of all the members, I would like to thank Stadtwerke Gießen for the 5,000 euros. "
