On Friday, 25 January, Torsten Spengler from Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) presented a donation of 500 euros to Horst Daniel, pastor of the Protestant parish of Lützellinden, and church warden Herbert Rinker. "We would like to contribute to the costs of renovating the historic church tower in this way," explained Torsten Spengler when handing over the cheque.
In 2012, the parish had the approximately 540-year-old tower extensively renovated. Among other things, several companies from the region renewed the slate shingles and the substructure of the building from the late Gothic period. This was an urgently needed renovation, as rain was already penetrating and causing damage to the interior of the church.
"We had to take action, despite the high costs, which unfortunately we cannot pay in full from our reserves and the current annual budget. That's why we are happy to receive any financial help, such as that from the Giessen public utility company," explained Pastor Horst Daniel. This commitment was particularly close to Torsten Spengler's heart: "As a native of Lützellinden, I am delighted that we are supporting the preservation of this local landmark."
