Stadtwerke Gießen is supporting the association for the promotion of basketball in Lich. The company is donating the same amount that was raised through ticket sales on the first match day of the SWG Cup - the next highlight of the 75 good deeds in the anniversary year.
Basketball stars in Lich: This year's SWG Cup in the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Halle brought together top teams such as the series champions from Bamberg and Wetzlar as well as the Pro-A league team GIESSEN 46ers. In contrast to previous years, the focus was less on the tournament character of the event and more on the stars of the scene. The SWG Cup also served a good purpose for young basketball players. As part of its anniversary campaign - the 75 good deeds - Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) donated the same amount that was raised through ticket sales on the first evening of the tournament to the association for the promotion of basketball in Lich.
Brose Baskets Bamberg played a test game against Eisbären Bremerhaven in front of 350 spectators on Friday evening. On Saturday, spectators were treated to a match between the RSV Lahn-Dill wheelchair basketball team and HSV from Hamburg. This was followed by a match between the U14 youth team from TV Lich. Finally, in the evening, the highlight: the regional derby between the Lich BasketBären and the GIESSEN 46ers.
Personal commitment
Shortly before the game, Stadtwerke Gießen presented a donation cheque for 2,500 euros to the association for the promotion of basketball in Lich. Ina Weller, company spokeswoman for Stadtwerke, was the sponsor of the campaign. An avid basketball fan herself, she took the opportunity to personally sit at the box office on Friday and collect the entrance fees. The SWG sponsor was a member of the Stadtwerke company basketball team for many years and loves attending Licher BasketBären games. "I particularly appreciate the family atmosphere of the Licher basketball team," emphasised Ina Weller. "The clubs' youth work is particularly important to me. Sufficient exercise and sport are essential for health and physical development. And working together as a team promotes positive social behaviour in young people," emphasised the SWG sponsor.
Sporting support
Founded in 1989, the sponsorship organisation supports basketball in Lich and collects donations that are then used to support the nine children's and youth teams with around 120 members. For example, the funds are used to subsidise trips to tournaments or the basketball camps in Lich. The support association also pays for coaches' fees and the purchase of new jerseys, balls and hats.
At the donation handover on Saturday before the Revierderby, SWG sponsor Ina Weller presented the cheque to the chairman of the sponsors' association, Professor Dr Harald Hungenberg, who thanked them for their help on behalf of the entire association and said: "We are very happy to have a loyal partner like Stadtwerke at our side who has supported us for many years. And we are delighted to be able to make a difference here in Lich again with the help of the donation."
