SWG celebrate with the Giessen fire brigade

Stadtwerke Gießen is supporting the Giessen professional fire brigade as a partner for the 112th anniversary day on 30 May 2026.

The Giessen fire brigade and Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) have been working closely together for many years. The two partners exchange information on disaster prevention four times a year. Now the fire brigade and SWG are also cooperating on a much more pleasant occasion: Giessen's professional fire brigade is celebrating its 112th anniversary. There is also another reason to invite the public to a celebration: The firefighters have been operating from their new location, the emergency response centre in Stolzenmorgen, for around two years now. The impressive building offers everything that modern fire service work and civil protection require. "We want to show the people here in Giessen and the region our new home and the technology installed here," explains Fire Director Martina Klee, Head of the Office for Fire and Civil Protection at the City of Giessen. This is what clearly distinguishes the day of action on 30 May from a typical fire service open day. "The focus is clearly on the building and the possibilities it offers us and the numerous rescue organisations from the region - especially in the event of a crisis. Of course, we also provide many insights into our daily work," adds Martina Klee.

SWG in on the action
As with the 100th anniversary - in 2014 still at the old location in Steinstraße - SWG is also making an active contribution to the upcoming celebrations in the form of an attractive children's programme. In addition to the popular wheel of fortune, SWG will also be bringing along an oversized four-in-a-row game. SWG has also been able to attract clown Ichmael with his mobile circus barn. He will delight his young guests at various hands-on stations: a children's make-up stand, a bobby car course and two different building block games. He will also show the young visitors how to make giant soap bubbles themselves. "We are delighted to be able to support the Giessen professional fire brigade and the Giessen City Fire Brigade Association on their day of action. After all, we see ourselves as a partner of the fire brigades - whether professional or voluntary," says Ulli Boos, company spokesman for SWG, explaining the company's commitment.
