On 4 May, the general meeting of the Landesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft Hessen/Rheinland-Pfalz e.V. (LDEW) re-elected Jens Schmidt, CEO of Stadtwerke Gießen, to its Executive Board. Jens Schmidt has been a member of the board since 2015.

The LDEW represents the interests of around 280 companies in the energy and water industry in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate vis-à-vis politicians, authorities and the public. It unites the electricity, district heating, natural gas, water and wastewater sectors. The LDEW is the link between the energy and water industry, politics and society.

"I am delighted to be able to play an active role on the LDEW Board in shaping the framework conditions for a sustainable energy and water supply in Hesse," explained Jens Schmidt after his election. "The energy transition can only be a success at state level with a greater sense of reality. This includes recognising that it is essential to strengthen the distribution grids. But it also includes recognising honestly that natural gas and its infrastructure will play a decisive role in achieving climate protection targets in the long term."

At its constituent meeting following the General Assembly, the new LDEW Board of Directors confirmed Dr Constantin H. Alsheimer from Mainova AG, Frankfurt am Main, and Josef Rönz from Energieversorgung Mittelrhein AG, Koblenz, as LDEW Chairmen.
