Customers of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) have received ominous calls from unknown persons over the past few days. The callers claimed to be SWG employees and said that the electricity in Bahnhofstraße Gießen and Obergasse in Staufenberg would be switched off for the entire day. The affected SWG customers were unable to identify the names of the callers.
"This message did not come from us at all," assures Ina Weller, company spokesperson for SWG. She suspects that a bad joke is behind it and makes it clear: "We would never announce on the phone that we are switching off the electricity. This is always done in writing or even in person. And our employees can always identify themselves in this case." According to Ina Weller, the message that the electricity will be switched off for the entire day is evidence of the callers' ignorance: "We always give an exact time period, which is a few hours at most."

Customers of Stadtwerke Gießen who have received similar calls over the past few days and weeks can contact SWG employees on the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile phone networks) for advice.
