SWG are supporting the Giessen Cultural Summer
SWG will once again be supporting the Giessen Cultural Summer as a premium partner in 2026.
From classical music to Schlager and pop to hard rock – from 19 August, Schiffenberg Abbey will provide the setting for the Giessen Cultural Summer. Over 13 evenings, top-class artists will create a fantastic party atmosphere together with the enthusiastic audience. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will be there every time. As in previous years, they are once again supporting the popular open-air festival as a premium partner. “The Giessen Cultural Summer has enormous appeal. People are now coming from further afield. So there’s no question in our minds that we should play our part in ensuring the success of such an outstanding event,” says Ulli Boos, SWG’s company spokesperson, explaining the organisation’s commitment.
Such partnerships are of great importance to the organisers. “We are delighted that SWG is once again supporting our festival,” explains Dennis Bahl, managing director of Konzertbüro Bahl GmbH. “Without such reliable partners, it would no longer be possible to organise an event of this quality and scale.”
A top venue, great music and delicious food
The Giessen Cultural Summer looks back on a success story that is unparalleled in Central Hesse. The venue itself, of course, plays a decisive role in this. Thanks to the comparatively compact historic monastery courtyard, all visitors are relatively close to the stage. In addition, each show is broadcast onto large video screens, even in slightly more remote areas. This means that guests don’t miss a thing, even if they go off to grab one of the many tasty treats on offer during the concert. It is precisely these little culinary delights that are an integral part of the Giessen Cultural Summer. “We offer only high-quality regional produce at reasonable prices,” says Markus Urich, also managing director of the concert office, describing the catering concept that he and his daughter Mara are constantly refining.
An important detail: the Giessen Cultural Summer is not only highly popular with music lovers. The artists themselves also appreciate the festival for its special, family-like atmosphere and are happy to include the Schiffenberg as a stop on their tour itinerary. In fact, the organisers regularly manage to bring top acts to Giessen who would otherwise only perform in front of much larger audiences. “We do everything we can to make things as comfortable as possible for the artists. And word of this has spread throughout the scene,” reveals Markus Urich.
Sufficient power for sound and lighting
The SWG’s involvement has two aspects – a financial one and a very practical one. As a sponsor, they contribute a monetary donation to ensure that ticket prices remain affordable. However, their hands-on support is at least as important. After all, the SWG also provide the necessary power supply, set up the technical infrastructure for the event and make the spectacular shows possible in the first place. This is because the sound systems, lighting rigs and video walls required for these events would overwhelm the existing wiring within the historic monastery walls.
