A few days ago, the "Rohrleger" dragon boat team from Stadtwerke Gießen achieved another success in Emden. Thanks to a great team performance over the long distance, the women and men finished in a strong third place.

After eighth place in 2015 and sixth place in 2016, they have now made it onto the winners' podium. At the long-distance regatta in Emden, the Stadtwerke Gießen dragon boat team took third place in the field of 37 teams. An impressive team performance by the "Rohrleger" - after all, they left high-class sports teams such as the Meidericher Kanuclub, the Sporting Dragons from Emden and the Underwater Dragons from Oldenburg behind them.
The competition included two heats with distances of 3.2 and 4.4 kilometres. Strength, cohesion and stamina were required. "The team would like to thank our coach Ulrike Kohlitz from Hassia Ruderverein in Giessen for her intensive and excellent preparation," emphasised captain Jens Dreiwurst.

Team spirit makes the difference
The team spirit of the "Rohrleger" formed the basis for the excellent third place at the very well organised long-distance regatta in Emden. With 17 minutes and 24 seconds in the first race over 3.2 kilometres and 24 minutes and 18 seconds in the second race over 4.4 kilometres, not much was missing for an even greater success. In the end, the team from Giessen was only 16 seconds behind the first-placed team and just nine seconds behind the second-placed team.
Jens Dreiwurst promises: "We're already looking forward to putting in a similarly good performance next year and paddling among the front runners.
