Local public transport services in Giessen are expected to be cancelled from 9 January. The trade union ver.di has called the bus drivers to strike.
The buses in Giessen are expected to come to a standstill from Monday, 9 January. The trade union ver.di has called on the drivers of the Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) subsidiary MIT.BUS, among others, to go on strike. As things stand at present, the drivers of Stadtwerke Gießen will also follow this call. For this reason, all routes in the Giessen city area as well as bus routes 801 and 802 between Giessen and Wettenberg will be affected by the cancellations.
Background to the strike: The state association of Hessian bus companies (LHO) and the trade union ver.di are currently negotiating new tariffs. The representatives of the two bargaining parties have not yet reached an agreement and a date for the next round of negotiations has not yet been set.
"The cancellations may affect all local transport lines in Giessen and between Giessen and Wettenberg at any time," explains Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at Stadtwerke Giessen. "We therefore advise all passengers to find out about possible cancellations in good time on the radio, on the Internet, via the daily newspapers or by calling our service number 0641 708-1400. ver.di has not yet announced how long the strikes will last."
Current transport information is also available on the SWG website at www.stadtwerke-giessen.de/verkehr. If passengers have any questions, they can also contact the advisors at the mobility centre in the customer centre in person. Opening hours of the customer centre: Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
