SWG and SC Waldgirmes extend co-operation

Stadtwerke Gießen and SC 1929 Waldgirmes are working together for another three years.
The Hessenliga is regarded as comparatively strong and balanced in the regional football scene. To hold your own here over the years requires two things: a well-staffed team in all positions and reliable partners who make it possible to play in Germany's fifth-highest division. SC 1929 Waldgirmes has both. The traditional club and Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) recently extended their partnership, which has been in place since 2014, by another three years. "SWG help us enormously to play in the Hessenliga. Having such partners on board makes sport at this level possible in the first place," explained Christoph Stamm, 1st Chairman of SC Waldgirmes, at the signing of the contract.
As part of the co-operation, SWG are actively helping to ensure that the team can play in the Hessenliga. "Stable finances are now a prerequisite for attractive football," says Patrick Rauber, who is responsible for sponsorship at the club. After all, not only do you need players with the necessary skills, but also a functioning team of coaches and support staff to look after the team. In addition, travelling to the 19 away games per season is becoming an ever-increasing cost factor.
Own young talent
A speciality of SC Waldgirmes is its work with young talent. The second team, the U23s, will play in the Gießen/Marburg group league in the coming season, just two divisions below the first team. "This constellation allows us to bring up young players time and again," explains Christoph Stamm. Talented youngsters from the youth team - such as the U19s, who will be playing in the Hessenliga in the coming season - play in this team time and again. And the young talent - the B-youth and the younger A-youth - will be fighting for goals and points in the group league next season.
In general, youth work is a high priority at SC Waldgirmes. A dedicated team of coaches trains the talents of tomorrow in nine children's and youth teams. In fact, the club offers football enthusiasts of all ages - from the Bambinis in the G-Youth (born 2019 and younger) to the A-Youth (born 2007/2008) - the right team. "This concept, which SC Waldgirmes has been practising for many years, is a key reason why we will continue to support the club in the future," says Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing & Communications at SWG, explaining the extension of the partnership, adding: "The focus on sustainability is a value that we share with the club."
So far, the idea of relying primarily on the club's own young talent has paid off. The club has remained stable in the Hessenliga since being promoted again in 2017. And it should stay that way. In fact, those responsible are well aware of the situation and remain modest. "We're aiming for a place in the safe midfield again. Of course, a single-digit place in the table would be a nice bonus," says Christoph Stamm, setting the goal for the coming season.
