By bus to the city festival
Stadtwerke Gießen will be providing convenient travel to and from the city festival next weekend. Thanks to the support of the city of Giessen, all journeys within the city area are free of charge.
A whole weekend of music, culture and culinary delights - from Friday, 15 August to Sunday, 17 August, tens of thousands of people will once again come to Giessen city centre to celebrate at the traditional city festival. Of course, Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) will also be playing its part in the success of the event. With an extended timetable for various bus routes, they will ensure that visitors get home safely: At midnight on Friday and Saturday night, buses on line 1 will depart from the "Marktplatz" bus stop in the direction of Lützellinden and Rödgen, line 2 to Eichendorffring, line 3 in the direction of Friedhof and Schwarzacker, line 5 in the direction of Wieseck and line 7 to Philosophenwald. Line 800 goes to Weststadt, while a scheduled taxi is available for journeys to Petersweiher, the Protestant hospital and Sandfeld. As the SWG managers are expecting a high volume of passengers, they are using articulated buses on lines 1, 2, 5 and 15.
Even later at night
The Venus and Saturn night buses start their route as usual at Berliner Platz. They depart from here every hour from midnight to 4.30 a.m. on both nights. The Venus line runs via the railway station to the north and west of Giessen as far as Wieseck. The Saturn line takes passengers to the south and east of the city as well as to Kleinlinden. In the direction of Rödgen, connecting taxis are available at the "Waldstadion" stop for the onward journey. Taxis are waiting at the "Brüder-Grimm-Schule (Süd)" stop for people travelling to Allendorf and Lützellinden.
Public transport instead of cars
Once again this year, visitors to the festival will be able to get to the city centre without stress and without having to worry about parking. Many of them even for free. As in previous years, the city of Giessen is offering free public transport on Saturday and Sunday throughout the city centre and between Giessen and Heuchelheim in fare zone 1501. Of course, this also applies to the additional departures at midnight from the market square.
But there is also a particularly attractive option on Fridays, when the regular RMV fares apply: the group day ticket. For just 9.90 euros, up to five people can travel by bus in fare zone 1501 - i.e. throughout Giessen - until closing time. "Travelling to the city festival by public transport is therefore not only easy on the nerves, but also on the wallet," explains Ulli Boos, company spokesman for SWG.
Diversions for three bus routes
The city festival has long provided a worthy setting for the Giessen city run "Run 'n' Roll for Help". This year, dedicated athletes will once again complete various routes for a good cause on Sunday afternoon. Because the race runs through the city centre, SWG will have to reroute bus routes 5 and 15 towards the train station and bus route 12 to Berliner Platz. This will affect journeys on 17 August between around 11 am and 8 pm. Lines 5 and 15 in the direction of the railway station will run from the "Landgericht" stop via Moltkestraße and Grünberger Straße and will therefore serve the "Berliner Platz" stop instead of the "Behördenzentrum" stop. Line 12 will also take a different route than usual in the direction of Berliner Platz from the "Landgericht" stop. For this reason, it will exceptionally terminate at the "Berliner Platz" stop on the Kongresshalle side. It is also unable to serve the "Behördenzentrum" stop. In the direction of Wieseck or Sandfeldschule, all the above-mentioned lines will run on the scheduled route.
