After a furious start at the beginning of April, spring has taken another break in the meantime. Uwe Volbrecht, Head of Pool Operations at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), therefore hopes that May will now live up to its nickname as the month of bliss. Because the season at the Ringallee outdoor pool starts on Saturday 6 May. Then bathers can once again swim in the open air and enjoy the sunshine in fine weather. The two smaller outdoor pools in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden are expected to open on 4 June.
"As always, we have prepared everything over the past few weeks so that visitors can relax and feel comfortable in the outdoor pool," explains Uwe Volbrecht. Minor and major winter damage has been repaired, the facilities cleaned, the sand at the water playground prepared and the play equipment overhauled. SWG also converted the toilet in the entrance area of the outdoor pool into a disabled-friendly sanitary facility and upgraded it with UV protection. When the sun blazes down with full force in the coming months, ten large umbrellas on the grounds will provide shade for visitors in future.

Stable prices and Wi-Fi at the outdoor pool

Both the opening times and prices remain the same as in 2016. A single ticket costs 3 euros, a 10-person ticket 24 euros (reduced 16 euros), a season ticket for adults 84 euros (reduced 56 euros) and a season ticket for families 168 euros. Visitors can swim and sunbathe daily from 9 am to 8 pm. Early swimmers can swim their lengths from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Mondays to Fridays.
Since last year, SWG has been offering its bathers free WiFi at the Ringallee outdoor pool. Anyone can use the SWG WiFi free of charge for 30 minutes a day. The only requirement: registration via e-mail address, Facebook or Googlemail account. SWG customers can also authenticate themselves via the SWG online service to choose a username and password and register for unlimited high-speed Internet access.

Access with semester ticket

In 2017, students will once again receive a chip at the ticket office of the Ringallee outdoor pool on presentation of their semester ticket, which they can use to access the pool during normal opening hours - once a day. Unlike last year, this regulation now applies to students from all Giessen universities - Justus Liebig University, the Technical University of Central Hesse and the Free Theological University.
